Richard L. Jacobs, 61, of Oakwood Hills, Illinois died on January 17, 2018. He was born in Moline, Illinois to the late Robert and Grace Jacobs.
Rick will be most remembered for his love of family, especially his grandson Killian whom he loved spending time with, friends, life, and his musical talents. He began his musical career at the very young age of thirteen, playing coffee houses in the Chicagoland area. He played in several area bands after high school before moving to California to pursue his musical dreams. He became the lead singer for the 80’s Pop band “Steel Breeze” and went on to have a top hit and MTV music video, “You Don’t Want Me Anymore”. He opened for many great artists including The Who, Hall and Oates, Kansas, Huey Lewis and the News, Joan Jett, Peter Frampton, and many more. He appeared on American Bandstand, Solid Gold, and The Merv Griffin Show. While touring with The Who, they performed before crowds of 55,000 in the Cotton Bowl and 65,000 in the Astrodome. He later returned to Chicago to raise his family holding jobs in the restaurant, cable, and entertainment industries. He loved watching his Chicago Cubs, fishing, and a good round of golf.
Rick is survived by his fiancé Cynthia Anderson, his children, Marissa (Brandon) Mulhall and Jared Jacobs, his grandson Killian Mulhull, his stepchildren, Alexandra and Graham Anderson, his brothers and sisters, Susan (the late Robert) Zoelle, Theresa (Scott) Beck, Robert (Pamela) Jacobs, John (Lisa) Jacobs, and Thomas Jacobs, and many nieces and nephews.
He had a warm smile, a kind heart, and a beautiful voice. He will be missed by all.
A Memorial Service will be held at Willow Creek of Crystal Lake, 100 South Main Street, Crystal Lake, Illinois on Saturday, January 27th at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rick’s name to the American Heart Association at
