December 27, 1935 - July 13, 2019

Winifred Jane Campbell (nee Long), of Glenview, age 83, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 13, 2019. She was born December 27, 1935 in East Moline, IL and was united in marriage to William L. Campbell for 61 years. They spent a majority of their life together living in Wilmette, IL.
Wini took pride in her family and was a mother, friend and advisor to her two daughters, Barbara Rezabek and Susan Sweem. She was always there for them whether it was leading them as a Girl Scout Leader, attending their sports activities or advising them on educational opportunities. In similar fashion, she also adored her grandchildren, Megan (Michael), John, Tyler, Kristin and Alex. Family celebrations were always filled with the joy of laughter around the table which included her son-in-law’s, Steve Rezabek and Steve Sweem.
Education was first and foremost to Wini. She graduated from the U. of IL in 1957 where she became a member of Phi Mu fraternity and met her husband, Bill. They initially settled in Evanston, IL and later moved to Wilmette. When her children entered elementary school, she went back to school for another degree in Education and began her career as an elementary school teacher. She spent many years as a 2nd and 4th grade teacher at Wayne Thomas School in Highland Park, IL. Wini also continued her education achieving a Masters’ degree in Education while attending school in the evenings. After retiring, she served as adjunct faculty at National Louis University to supervise incoming student teachers. She loved her students and continuous learning.
Other passions of Wini included reading, tennis, golf and travel. She belonged to a book club for over 25 years. She was never without a book by her side table. Wini also played tennis throughout her life often playing with her fellow Wayne Thomas teachers in the early evenings. Golf was another highlight which she was able to play “full time” once she retired from teaching. She played at the Wilmette Golf Club and was president of the golf group as well. Wini loved to travel and see the world. She and Bill traveled throughout Europe, India, Australia and Asia. She was able to experience so many different cultures which once again proved her passion for learning.
Wini will be remembered for her smile, contagious laugh and good humor. In her honor, a memorial service will take place at the First Presbyterian Church of Wilmette on Saturday, August 10th at 11:00am. Family and friends are invited to attend. As Wini desired a “Celebration of Life” service, it is asked that you wear something colorful (such as shirt, scarf, etc.) in her memory.
