Our message to the community in light of COVID-19:

It is our mission to honor and serve our families with dignity and compassion, while keeping the health and safety of our staff and community in mind. Cremation Society of Illinois is following the guidance of the World Health Organization and Center for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as the Cremation Association of North America and the National Funeral Directors Association.

Currently, our offices remain open for families to make funeral and cremation arrangements for their loved ones. In these modern times, and in light of concerns regarding COVID-19, we can offer the option to complete arrangements from your own home via email and our website. Our funeral directors and family counselors are also available to assist over the phone if necessary.

The CDC has provided the following guidance: Decedents with COVID-19 can be buried or cremated. Embalming can be conducted. A funeral or visitation service can be held for a person who has died of COVID-19. Funeral home workers should follow their routine infection prevention and universal precautions when handling a decedent who died of COVID-19.

It may be difficult to practice social distancing during the social gathering of a funeral or memorial service. On Tuesday, March 17, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are advising against gatherings of 10 people or more for the next eight weeks. We encourage private or family-only services for the time being.

For services conducted at our funeral service center, we will be placing our chapel chairs three feet apart and disinfecting regularly. If you are feeling ill, we request you stay home. There are many alternative ways you can support your loved ones in their time of grief: writing a letter, sending flowers, leaving a message of condolence to the family on our web site, or video chatting if you cannot attend services in person.

Due to reduced staff at county offices and/or closures, there may be delays in securing cremation permits and certified death certificates. We ask for everyone's patience as we work through this process together.

We will continue to work in conjunction with county offices and medical professionals to serve our community in a timely manner with the dignity and care that they deserve. As always, we are here to serve. Please reach out to us if there is anything we can do to help you or your family through these challenging times. Our thoughts go out to anyone affected by COVID-19.
