Born in Magalang, Indonesia
Resided in Richmond, Illinois

Rudy H. Ruttendjie died peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on June 15, 2019. His death was unexpected for a man so full of life.

Rudy’s proudest accomplishment was his family, first and foremost, his wife of 56 years, Joanne. Their's was a love story and marriage held up as an ideal.

Rudy’s two daughters, Ingrid Wadsworth and Debbie Monterrey Millett, adored him. Their children considered their grandpa to be their buddy and best pal. Victoria, Spencer and Olivia Enriquez, along with Caeli and Beck Millett, will forever miss their grandfather’s gentle humor and wry smile. His sons-in-law, Robert Wadsworth and Steve Millett, benefitted from his knowledge of gardening, power tools and dealing with female-dominated households.

Rudy had a love of music and was our King of Karaoke. He loved to sing and frequented locales in northern Illinois, with a strong opinion on where karaoke was done best. His signature song, “Margaritaville,” will forever in his friends’ and families’ minds, be associated with Rudy working the crowd, microphone in hand, happy and living his best life. No one was a bigger fan of his crooning than his wife, Joanne.

He was an avid bowler and gardener. He spent many hours tending his home’s immaculate landscape.

Rudy retired in 2010 from a 2nd career as an assessor, after a long career in finance/accounting in Chicago.

Born in Indonesia, Rudy moved to the Netherlands in 1950. He met Joanne (then Johanna, or Joke) at a pool in Borne in 1960 as she was in training as an Olympic hopeful for the Netherlands swim team. He served as a Lieutenant in the Dutch Royal Army, received his degree in Economics from Nyroder University and later moved with his family to Chicago, IL where Johanna followed a year later. They married July 20, 1963. He pursued another degree in Accounting and an MBA from DePaul University.

Rudy was loved by all who knew him. His life will be celebrated immediately after a Special church ceremony at St. Peters Church, where he was an active lector and usher.
