Obituary

John Myron Hisel, 61, painter and fine artist, of Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood, native of Kankakee, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at home January 26, 2019.

John earned his B.A. in Painting from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, worked at The Brown Elephant on Halsted for many years. As a member of ACT UP, John was a tireless activist for AIDS and HIV education and prevention, and volunteered countless hours to help improve the lives of those affected by the disease. He will be deeply missed for his wry sense of humor and sharp wit. He was a loyal friend and partner.

Beloved partner of ten and a half years to Robert Michael Kerr.

Cherished son of the late Robert J. Hisel and Patricia Dear Hisel.

Dear brother of Christine (Ted) Meade of Kankakee, devoted Godfather of Adrienne McQueen, faithful companion of Alfie and Galileo the cats.

A celebration of his life and art is being held Saturday, June 1, (time tdb) at Garden Apartment Gallery, 3528 W. Fulton Blvd, Chicago, IL 60624.
