Frederick MacDonald (1926-2013)

A long-time resident of Chicago's Lakeview community, Frederick MacDonald died peacefully in Northwestern Hospital on January 4, 2013, after a brief illness.

He was born in Northbridge, Massachusetts, to Robert E. MacDonald and Hazel E. Scamman MacDonald. Fred was retired from Illinois Masonic Hospital where he had worked in the Development Office as well as Medical Records. He had worked at Theater in the Round in Washington, DC, and lived in Texas before coming to Chicago.

Preceded in death by his parents and a sister (Joanne Cook), Fred is survived by his siblings Robert E. MacDonald, Jr. of Petaluma, California; Carol Cox of Lewiston, Maine; Richard G. MacDonald of Dorchester, Massachusetts; and Ruth Fogg of Monmouth, Maine. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews as well as his friends in Chicago.

Fred will be remembered for his lifelong interests in the live theater, ceramics, and international travel. Burial of his ashes will be in the family plot in Porter,
Maine, later in the spring. His Chicago friends plan a celebration of his life at a gathering to be held in the next few weeks.

Inquiries about the celebration details are being handled by The Cremation Society of Illinois, 736 W. Addison Street, Chicago, Illinois, 773-281-5058.

Memorials in Fred's name may be made to the charity of your choice or to Horizons Community Services at The Center on Halsted where he had worked as a volunteer after his retirement.
